Arequipa(2,700 masl or 8,640 ft.) is the 2nd largest city in Peru.
It is also called The White City because of the colors of its houses and constructions built from a volcanic white stone that is called Sillar,
The Colca Canyon is located 4 hours From Arequipa, the deepest canyon in the world. You can enjoy a 2 day tour, seeing the nice flight of the Condors and enjoying the great Hot Springs and the local culture.
Early in the morning well go to The Colca Canyon, that is a region that has kept its culture. There, we have the national reserve "Salinas y Aguada Blanca". Here there are vicuas, one of the two wild members of South American camels. After a stop to drink coca tea (good against altitude sickness) we arrive at the pass at 4800 masl. Or 15,360ft. We will enjoy the magnificent landscape with snow-capped volcanoes. From the pass it is a short trip to Chivay (3,700 masl or 11,800ft.), accommodations in Chivay at the Colca Lodge 3*, in the village there are nice Hot Springs where we can go to enjoy a nice swim.
This morning, we will go to Cruz del Condor, which is the unique place in the world to see the spectacle of huge condors flying nearby. We also hope to spot the smaller ones like Andean Hill star and Black Metal tail, two highland hummingbirds. After lunch, we return to Arequipa, but on our way back we will search for the Diademed Sandpiper-Plover, a rare wader of the highlands, arriving in Arequipa at 6:00 pm aprox.
