4X4 on The Highlands 14D/13N

Travel in a 4x4 Toyota truck and Motorbikes across Peru from the coastal capital, to Machu Picchu, Colca Canyon, Titicaca Lake and the NASCA Lines, thus visiting the major attractions of southern Peru, but linking them not as in a traditional travel package by plane and bus, but taking our time to see the countryside by 4X4 wheel  or Motorbikes 4x4 Peru

Day 1 LIMA

Transfer to the Hotel. Welcome Dinner and party hosted by our guide.

Day 2 LIMA - HUANCAYO

9:00 am. We leave Lima and climb up to 4,800 meters to the Ticlio pass, burning 380 km of asphalt. In the pass, the road runs along the highest train track in the world. We drop to Huancayo and spend the night a bit further on, in the valley of Mantaro. Hotel.

Day 3 HUANCAYO - AYACUCHO

We try out our first dirt road at seven in the morning. This uncompleted stretch of highway was the subject of Mario Vargas Llosas Death in the Andes. He speculated that local Quechua Indians would blame the mountain gods for the floods and landslides that have constantly prevented the roads completion and would see human sacrifice as the way to appease the gods, complete the road, and realize the economic boom that transportation through here would bring. In the early afternoon we reach Ayacucho, whose lovely colonial churches occupy us until evening Hotel. 4x4 Peru.

Day 4 AYACUCHO - ANDAHUAYLAS

We leave at 8 in the morning and pass Andahuaylas, a potato growing zone with more than a thousand varieties of potatoes under cultivation. Hotel in the evening.

Day 5: ANDAHUAYLAS – ABANCAY - CUSCO

This is the last leg of the journey to Cusco. After 1oo 140 Kms of dirt road and 150 km. of asphalt, we reach the city of Cusco (3,300 masl. or 10560 ft.) in the afternoon, hotel.

Day 6 CUSCO - URUBAMBA

At 9:00 AM we take a bus to the long Sacred Valley of the Incas where we have guided visits to some of the most important Inca settlements, and sleep in Urubamba.

Day 7 URUBAMBA MACHUPICCHU - CUSCO

We go to the Ollantaytambo train Station in the Sacred Valley, board the train, and go to Machu Picchu. We will be guided around this most spectacular Incan site. In the afternoon we return by train to Cusco. Hotel.

Day 8 CUSCO PUNO

We leave early by our 4x4 cars and motorbikes, visiting towns and pre-Inca ruins along the route to Puno, 400 km away and 3,800 meters above the sea level. Here we sleep on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Hotel.

Day 9 PUNO UROS - TAQUILE

We visit the floating islands of Uros and Taquile, where Aymara-speaking Indians live very traditional lives, despite, or maybe thanks to, tourism. We sleep again in Puno.

Day 10 PUNO - CAÑON DEL COLCA

We leave the city of the high plain with Chivay as our intention. We cross the Atlantic/Pacific watershed, between active volcanoes, and come to rest in the excellent thermal baths of Chivay. Here we sleep in a hotel.

Day 11 CRUZ DEL CONDOR AREQUIPA

We watch the Condors at the best lookout over the Colca Canyon, the Condors Cross. Then we go to Arequipa and arrive in the afternoon. Hotel.

Day 12 AREQUIPA NASCA

We take the Panamerican Highway to NASCA, where we arrive in the afternoon. Hotel.

Day 13 NASCA - LIMA

In the morning we fly over the NASCA Lines. Then we go to Lima, arriving in the afternoon. Hotel.
