VIVENCIAL TOURISM IN THE COMMUNITY PATABAMBA

In the community of Patabamba, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Sacred Valley and learn about the ancestral dyeing and weaving techniques of the local inhabitants. Dress in their traditional costumes. Walk to the Balcony of the Sacred Valley, collect leaves and flowers for dyeing, and participate in the preparation of a delicious Pachamanca.

Your visit will directly benefit the people that participate in the services and daily activities, and indirectly you will encourage the conservation of their environment, such as wild and native flora and fauna, and the revival of traditional arts and techniques, which will reinforce the community’s identity and provide new sustainable development alternatives.

ITINERARY

Day 1 – Experiential Tourism in the Patabamba Community

7:30 a.m. We will pick you up from your hotel in the city center and depart Cusco for the community of Patabamba (3,885 meters above sea level). Along the way, we will admire fields of quinoa, kiwifruit, potatoes, and beans. Upon arrival, we will head to a natural viewpoint of the Sacred Valley where the residents will be waiting for us with flowers and invite us to dress in their traditional costumes.

We will then take a short walk to the Qeswachaca Bridge, then hike to the Balcony of the Sacred Valley (a 2-hour round trip). On the way back, we will collect leaves, flowers, and herbs to participate in the dyeing and weaving process. We will learn from them how they use the leaves and clay to obtain colors so strong that they last for years. We will be able to dye some polo shirts and observe how the colors turn out, as well as appreciate their dyeing techniques.
