If you don’t have so many time to spend in Uyuni, and want to go to San Pedro de Atacama, this is the best trip, traveling and knowing the best places on the road.
It’s a long day (approximately 10 to 12 hours) and takes place at high altitude, ideal for our clients who wish to end the tour in San Pedro de Atacama (Chile).
ITINERARY
5:00 AM, Departure from Uyuni,
The trip begins at dawn. It’s essential to leave early to take advantage of the sunlight in the most remote parts of the Altiplano. The first part of the journey crosses mining areas and high Andean plains.
8:30 AM Altiplano Lagoons (Cañapa and Hedionda)
Brief stop to observe flamingos in these intensely colored lagoons.
10:30 AM Siloli Desert and Stone Tree
Entrance to the volcanic sand desert. You’ll see rock formations sculpted by wind erosion, the Stone Tree being the most famous.
12:00 PM Laguna Colorada
One of the most impressive spots on the trip. The reddish color of its waters (due to sediments and algae) and the thousands of flamingos that inhabit it create a surreal sight.
1:30 PM Geysers Sol de Mañana
The highest point on the route (almost 5,000 meters above sea level). You’ll see fumaroles, boiling mud craters, and smell the strong sulfur odor. It’s a landscape that seems otherworldly.
2:30 PM Polques Hot Springs and Dalí Desert
Dalí Desert: A plain with rock formations reminiscent of the surrealist artist’s paintings.
3:30 PM Laguna Verde and Licancabur Volcano
The last gem before the border. If the wind is right, you’ll see the vibrant emerald color of the lagoon with the imposing Licancabur volcano in the background.
4:30 PM Arrival at Hito Cajón (Border)
Procedures: Bolivian exit immigration control.
Transfer: Here we change from a Bolivian 4×4 vehicle to a Chilean van.
Approximately 6:00 PM Arrival in San Pedro de Atacama
Descent of almost 2,000 meters on a paved road to the town. Entry procedures into Chile (Customs and PDI) and arrival in the center of San Pedro.
