Choquequirao trek SEO description 5 Days

This geographic area contains a countless variety of microclimates, featuring vistas that range from towering snow-capped summits above 6,000 meters to high-altitude Andean plains, eventually transitioning into vast cloud forests and high jungles.

Following the arrival of Western forces, Manco Inca governed this region, which was comprised of various hubs, residential areas, and sacred architectural sites. These structures were established earlier and were linked by an intricate web of Incan pathways that were further developed during the leadership of Manco Inca, Sayri Tupac, Titu Cusi Yupanqui, and Tupac Amaru I.

The leaders chose to form a NEO-IMPERIAL state to safeguard the collective wisdom regarding the spiritual beliefs, celestial observations, and cultural practices of the traditional Inca civilization.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Cusco – Capuliyoc – Chiquisca (3350 – 2850 – 1930m)

Our journey starts with an early morning departure from Cusco (3,350m), traveling northwest by vehicle to the town of Cachora (2,850m). We will pause for breakfast along the way before heading to the trailhead at Capuliyoc, an area encircled by mountains and the impressive snow-dusted Padreyoc peak (5,571m).

At the Capuliyoq pass (2,800m), we will meet our wranglers and the mules responsible for transporting all the camping gear for the duration of the trip. From this point, we can enjoy an incredible view of the Apurímac canyon and catch a glimpse of the Choquequirao Archaeological Complex far off in the distance. After a short rest to view our descending zigzag path along the mountain’s edge, we will continue to our campsite at Chiquisca (1,930m), a small, warm settlement where we will have lunch and stay for the night.

Trekking duration: 3-4 hours in a warm environment with insects.

Distance covered: 8 km.

Day 2: Chiquisca – Playa Rosalina – Marampata – Choquequirao (1930 – 1550 – 2850 – 3033m).

Following breakfast, we start a descent of roughly thirty minutes to reach Rosalina Beach ($1,500$ m). From that point, we begin the climb out of the canyon as quickly as possible, traveling through a warm climate toward the village of Marampata ($2,850$ m). Our campsite here offers a magnificent view of the Choquequirao archaeological site.

The sunset at Choquequirao is a mystical experience, often featuring the Andean Condor—a local symbol—as it glides down from the towering peaks of the Vilcabamba range toward the archaeological complex at $3,033$ m.

Distance: 14 km.

Trekking time: 7 hours through both warm and cold environments.

Day 3: Choquequirao

Amidst a magnificent sunrise, we will conduct a full tour of the Choquequirao site. Currently, only 30% of the ruins have been restored.

The remaining portion of the complex remains a secret concealed by the surrounding flora. Following our guided visit, you will have ample time to explore Choquequirao and its mysteries independently. We will stay overnight at the same location.

Climate: Warm with the presence of mosquitoes.

Trekking duration: 6 hours.

Day 4: Choquequirao – Marampata – Playa Rosalina – Chiquisca (3033 – 2850 – 1550 – 3350m)

Following breakfast, we will make our way back to Marampata (2,850m). We will pass through this location before heading down to Playa Rosalina (1,550m) and continuing on to our designated campsite at Chiquisca (1,930m).

Environment: Warm climate with mosquitoes.

Trekking duration: 6 hours.

Day 5: Chiquisca – Capuliyoc – Cachora – Cusco (1930 – 2850 – 2800 – 3350m)

In the morning, we will undertake an uphill trek to Capuliyoq (2,850m). At this location, we will take a brief rest to look out over the Apurímac canyon, a moment that also provides an excellent opportunity to spot the flight of the Condor.

Once we depart from the Capuliyoq pass, the trail becomes less demanding, allowing you to appreciate the views of the mountains and snow-capped peaks belonging to the highest reaches of the range. Upon reaching the town of Cachora, a vehicle will be ready to transport us back to the city of Cusco.
