Eco Tour in the Peruvian Amazon

Iquitos is a magic place in the heart of the Peruvian Jungle, located northwest in the country, Iquitos is the largest jungle city in Peru it is also isolated from other big cities in PERU, without roads, the only way to get there is by air.

ITINERARY

Day 1: IQUITOS

The tour begins with a transfer from the airport or your hotel to the pier. At 9:30 a.m., the boat ride begins on the Nanay River, sailing until reaching the majestic Amazon River, the largest river in the world.

The first stop is at the indigenous community “Kukamas or Yaguas,” one of the 23 indigenous communities in the Amazon. Visitors will participate in a song and dance exhibition, and will be able to buy local crafts. Candy for the children of the community is welcome.

Next, you will visit Fundo Pedrito, an animal farm where you will be fed paiches, piranhas, alligators, turtles, parrots, macaws, anacondas, and you will be able to see the famous Victoria Regia plant.

At noon, you will arrive at the lodge, where you will enjoy lunch and be assigned cabins for lodging. Then, there is an excursion to the Free Animal Reserve, a large and original space where you can see monkeys, macaws, anteaters, parrots, sloths, the prehistoric turtle “mata mata” and the feared anaconda or boa constrictor.

Dinner is served at 7:30 p.m., followed by a guided night excursion through the jungle, either on foot or by canoe. Visitors will have the opportunity to observe tarantulas, cicadas, spiders, scorpions, praying mantises and listen to the songs of owls and other nocturnal sounds of the jungle.

The night at the lodge, where you can rest after a day full of activities.

Day 2: IN THE JUNGLE

The day begins with a sunrise excursion, approximately at 4:30 a.m., to enjoy the sunrise in the impressive landscape of the Amazon jungle. During this morning walk, you can observe the typical birdlife of the area.

After the excursion, you will return to the ecolodge for breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Afterwards, you will take a walk to the Canopy Park, where you will be able to enjoy a panoramic view from 35 meters high. You will also be able to experience the new CANOPY circuit, which includes zip lines, hanging bridges, climbing net, pendulum and more, an activity full of adrenaline (maximum weight allowed: 100 kg). At the end, you can cool off in the pool.

At 1:00 p.m., lunch is served at the lodge. Then, you will go fishing for piranhas and other fish using traditional techniques from local communities or sport fishing equipment.

Another attraction is the observation of the pink and gray dolphins, where you can admire their elegance as they navigate the Amazon River. These dolphins have a special place in local legends, such as the “bufeo colorado”, a dolphin that, according to stories, can transform into a handsome young man.

Dinner is served at 7:30 p.m. at the ecolodge, followed by a talk about Amazonian legends, told by the guides, and overnight at the lodge.

Day 3: IQUITOS

The day begins with breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Then, a botanical walk is done in which you can observe the typical flora and fauna of the region, learning about the different uses that local people give to each plant. During the tour, you will see fruit, medicinal and timber trees, and you will visit the gigantic and ancient Lupuna or Ceiba tree of the jungle, highlighting the density and charms of the Amazon jungle.

At 1:00 p.m., you will enjoy a delicious lunch at the Lodge.

In the afternoon, you will visit the Morphosapi Butterfly Farm, located in the community of San Rafael, where you can observe in different greenhouses the process of evolution and development of the beautiful Morphos butterflies, an emblematic species of the region.

Dinner is served at 7:30 p.m., followed by an evening in the lodge’s cozy bar.

Day 4: IQUITOS

The day begins with breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Then, you set off on an adventure sailing down the Amazon River and visiting the town of San Juan de Huachalado. During this tour, you will meet the locals and appreciate the diverse local flora and fauna. You will continue to the Yanayacu River, a blackwater river, where you will spend the morning exploring and doing activities such as fishing, sailing and hiking. Along the way, you will be able to see the famous giant Lupuna tree and, depending on the season, find Tarzan vines.

The visit also includes a tour of the Trapiche in San Juan de Huachalado, where you will learn how the typical alcoholic beverages of the region are produced and you will be able to taste them.

Check-out will be at 12:30 p.m., followed by lunch at 1:00 p.m.

At 2:30 p.m., the transfer will take place sailing again along the Amazon River, to the city of Iquitos or directly to the airport. It is expected to arrive in Iquitos around 4:00 p.m., concluding the last transfer of the tour
