THE INCA TRAIL TO MACHU PICCHU

* Daily Departures

Embark on a 39-kilometer trek that will allow you to relive the majesty of the Inca Empire. For four unforgettable days, you will immerse yourself in a perfect blend of history, biodiversity, and ever-changing landscapes, from the Andean valleys to the lush cloud forest.

Accompanied by our expert guides, you will explore archaeological sites such as Patallaqta and Willkarakay, where you will uncover the secrets of this ancient civilization. The ultimate challenge will come when you conquer the Abra de Warmiwañusca (“Dead Woman’s Pass”), the highest point of the route at 4,200 meters (13,800 feet) above sea level.

Your effort will be rewarded at dawn on the fourth day, when you pass through the Sun Gate (Inti Punku). From there, you will witness the most breathtaking view of Machu Picchu, the most fascinating architectural masterpiece in the Andean world.

Important Information Regarding Reservations

Due to its historical significance, the Peruvian government limits access to this route to ensure its preservation. Therefore, it is essential to keep the following in mind:

Limited Capacity: Only 500 people are allowed per day. Of this total, only 200 spaces are reserved for tourists; the rest are allocated to the support team (guides, porters, and cooks).

Permits are sold out very quickly due to high demand.

We recommend making your reservation at least 6 months in advance to guarantee your place on your desired date.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Cusco – KM 82 – Wayllabamba – Ayapata

The Beginning of the Ancestral Adventure

We begin our journey at 5:30 a.m., departing from Cusco (3350 m) in private transportation. During the trip, we will cross the Sacred Valley, observing picturesque Andean villages that preserve ancient traditions. Upon reaching Kilometer 82, we will meet our team of porters and pass through the official checkpoint to begin the legendary Inca Trail.

After three hours of easy hiking, we will enjoy lunch in Hatunchaka (3000 m). We will continue the ascent to Wayllabamba (3100 m), the last inhabited village on the route, before hiking for another hour to our first campsite in Ayapata (3300 m).

Hiking time: 6 to 7 hours.

Meals: Lunch and dinner.

Day 2: Ayapata – Warmihuañusca – Chaquicocha

The challenge of the high altitudes and panoramic views

We will awaken surrounded by a mystical environment to face the most demanding and rewarding section. We will ascend through the Ayapata valley towards Llulluchapampa (3850 m) until we reach the Warmihuañusca Pass (4200 m), the highest point of the route. From here, the view of Nevado Verónica is simply spectacular.

After reaching the summit, we’ll descend to the Pacaymayu Valley (3500 m) for a well-deserved lunch. The day continues past historical sites and along cobblestone trails until we reach our campsite in Chaquicocha, where we’ll spend the night under the stars.

We’ll continue the descent to the impressive Wiñayhuayna complex (2650 m). This archaeological site is a jewel of Inca architecture, situated on a steep hillside overlooking the Urubamba River. Here we will have our last group lunch and spend our last night camping.
