If you don’t have much time in San Pedro de Atacama and want to visit Uyuni, this is the ideal trip, as it allows you to explore the area and discover its best spots.

It’s a long day (approximately 10 to 12 hours) at high altitude, perfect for those who wish to end their tour in Uyuni, Bolivia.

ITINERARY

7:00 AM Departure from San Pedro de Atacama
The trip begins with pick-up at your hotel.
You will head towards the border in a Chilean van.

It’s a quick ascent of almost 2,000 meters in a short time.

8:30 AM Hito Cajón Border Crossing (Entrance to Bolivia)
Procedures: Immigration control for leaving Chile and entering Bolivia.
Transfer: Here you leave the van and board the Bolivian 4×4 vehicle, which will be your transport for the rest of the trip.

9:30 AM Laguna Verde and Licancabur Volcano:

The first stop on Bolivian soil.
At this time, depending on the wind, you can see how the water turns emerald green in front of the imposing volcano.

10:30 AM Dalí Desert and Polques Hot Springs:

You will cross the Dalí Desert, observing the formations that seem straight out of a surrealist painting and thermal Baths.

12:00 PM Sol de Mañana Geysers:

Arrival at the highest point of the route ($4,900 m above sea level). You will see volcanic activity at its peak: fumaroles and boiling mud.

The smell of sulfur is intense here.

1:30 PM Laguna Colorada (Lunch): Main stop to admire the thousands of pink flamingos and the intense reddish color of the water.

3:00 PM Stone Tree and Siloli Desert
Enter the volcanic sand desert to see the famous “Stone Tree” and other wind-eroded formations.

4:30 PM Altiplano Lagoons (Hedionda and Cañapa) Last stretch of lagoons before descending to lower elevations.
This is the ideal time for last photos of flamingos in the sunset light.

8:00 PM Arrival in Uyuni After crossing the high Andean plains and mining areas, you will finally arrive in the town of Uyuni for check-in at your hotel or connecting flight.

RECOMMENDATIONS

  • Clothing: Comfortable, warm clothing. For expeditions between January and April, waterproof or rain gear is essential.
  • Footwear: Comfortable shoes (preferably hiking boots)
  • Sun Protection: Sunglasses with UV protection and high-SPF sunscreen.
  • Documents: Valid passport or National Identity Card (DNI) in physical form.
  • Cash: It is recommended to carry at least 400 Bs. (Bolivianos) per person to cover expenses not included, such as, use of restrooms, access to hot springs, and purchase of handicrafts.
