Meet the Alpaca Herds, learn about these animals and enjoy nature at its most, with your private guide in one of the most remote, least-visited regions in Peru, and return to the fire of the cozy Hacienda-House at dusk, to enjoy the vast, timeless Andean Night.

ITINERARY

Day 1: Puno –Alpaca Ranch

It doesn’t matter where you set off from, be it PunoCuscoArequipa, or Colca, the journey to Alpaca Ranch will always be an experience. Remote dirt tracks guide you to the ranch. Once you have checked-in, and after a well deserved rest, your host shows you the surroundings and a few fine Alpacas grazing in front of the house. The options of going outside for a short walk or horse ride are plenty. At night you will enjoy a delicious dinner and the warmth of the fire, while Moises, the manager of the ranch tells you more about Mallkini’s history.

Day 2 – Alpaca Ranch

The more than 3000 animals in the ranch are organized in eight different herds. Every herd is formed by 250 to 500 animals, and they are spread in different areas along the 3000-hectare land. The plan for today is horse ride or drive on a 4WD, towards the heights of the ranch, in the search of one of the itinerant Herds. You will be amazed with the endless landscapes, having the chance of observing wild animals, such as deer, partridges, quails and eagles

Day 3 – Alpaca Ranch – Alpaca breeding course

After breakfast, visit the “Huacaya” breeding site, where the expert gives a first explanation about Alpaca breeding.
On your way back to the ranch you will appreciate the landscape from a natural lookout spot.
Lunch at the ranch.
During the afternoon, lecture about alpacas:  characteristics, types, etc.

Day 4 – Alpaca Ranch – Alpaca breeding course

Transfer to Sorani ranch, where you will learn about the studies related to embryo-transfer and genetics improvements.
During the morning you will participate in a hands-on session / workshop, to learn more about the different qualities of alpaca.
At noon you will drive back to the ranch for lunch.
During the afternoon you will join a lecture regarding common diseases, infections, genetic malformations, and how to deal with them.
After dinner, final ceremony and delivery of course-certificates.

Day 5 – Alpaca Ranch

You spend a last morning in Alpaca Ranch, to then be driven to your next destination.
