The Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu

Salkantay Machu Picchu (Machupicchu) trek begin in Mollepata, above the Apurimac (Apu Rimac) River, and cross the mountains to Machu Picchu(Machupicchu), above the Urubamba River. We pass under the shadow of Salkantay, the Apu of the range, which the Incas offered up all the fruits of their labors.

ITINERARY

Day 1 Cusco (Cuzco) - Mollepata - Markokasa

At 9:00 AM we drive to Mollepata to begin the journey. By car, we pass the towns of the Anta Plains (Izcuchaca, Zurite, Ancahuasi) and then enter the Limatambo valley, where we can appreciate the ruins of Tarawasi. In Mollepata we begin the hike, and later we will camp in Markokasa.

Day 2 Markokasa - Choquekiclla - Soraypampa

From Choquekiclla we can see Salkantay and Humantay, at whose feet we camp at the height of about 4000 masl.

Day 3 Soraypampa - Pampa Japonesa - Canal Inca

Today we pass under the Salkantay Snowcap, then descend to the Inca Chanel from where we can see lovely geography below us, campsite.

Day 4 Canal Inca - Tres Piedras - Llulluchapampa

We begin the hike towards Paucarcancha, down the Cusichaca valley to Llulluchapampa, also known as Inkaracay. campsite.

Day 5 Llulluchapampa - Pakaymayu - Sayacmarka

We begin the ascent to the high pass on the Inca trail to Machu Picchu (Machupicchu), called Warmiwañuska at 4,200 masl, and then drop into Pakaymayu and camp in Sayacmarka.

Day 6 Sayacmarka - Phuyupatamarca - Wiñaywayna

We drop into the high jungle and see some lovely new trees and animals, along with the stunning series of palaces that make up the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu (Machupicchu), campsite.

Day 7 Wiñaywayna - Machu Picchu (Machupicchu) - Cusco (Cuzco)

We reach Machu Picchu (Machupicchu), one of the world's greatest archaeological treasures, in the afternoon we’ll take the train back to Cusco(Cuzco).

  • Warm clothes, Light clothes, 4 pairs of socks
  • Insect repellent
  • Chocolates, candies or other snacks
  • Camera + Film/Video camera (optional)

NOTES:

  • In our shared services, we will pick-up our clients from your hotel as long as it is located in the downtown.
  • In our shared services, at the end of the tour, we leave our clients in a place close to the Main Square, because is easier go walking instead the car for the traffic jam. If your hotel is far from the downtown, take some cash with you in order to take a taxi.
  • Pick-up and drop off times are referential, this will depend on the traffic that can be found in the streets or delay of the other clients, our assistant will be on time but sometimes the transport could delay a few minutes.
  • For shared services, we do not give bathroom tents, we will only give this service on private tours. On the other hand, for the Inca Trail tours 4 days, in each camp there are bathrooms provided by the INC (National Institute of Culture), these bathrooms are free. In many other places, there are residents' toilets, which are bathrooms where you have to pay.
    We recommend to bring your own toilet paper.
